Steve Lautt

Steve Lautt focuses his practice primarily on corporate law and civil litigation, having successfully advocated for clients ranging from vulnerable newborns to multinational corporations in boardrooms and courtrooms throughout North Dakota. He serves as counsel for several regional cooperatives, advising their boards of directors and management on corporate governance, risk management, human resources, government relations, commercial litigation, and major transactions. Steve has negotiated, drafted, and closed multimillion-dollar transactions and litigated a wide variety of civil cases from inception through final judgment and appeal, recovering millions of dollars on behalf of cooperative and corporate clients.

A sixth-generation North Dakotan and native of Minot, Steve attended law school at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. While in law school, Steve’s article, Sunlight Is Still the Best Disinfectant: The Case for a First Amendment Right to Record the Police, 51 WASHBURN L.J. 349 (2012), was published in the Washburn Law Journal and won Washburn’s distinguished GNIP-GNOP Award for Excellence in Legal Writing.

Steve is the former President of the Ward County Bar Association and currently serves as a board member for the Northern Plains Children’s Advocacy Center and the North Dakota Association for Justice. He is married to Diane, and they have two young children. More than anything, Steve just wants the Vikings to win a Super Bowl before he dies.
